Columbus State Cougars Edge Albany State Golden Rams 16-4

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State women's softball team held a lead early in the game, but big scoring innings by Columbus State University erased its advantages. As a result, ASU dropped 16-4 in a single game contest this afternoon.
                   
The loss gives the Golden Rams an overall record of 3-10. The Cougars improve to 17-8.

The Cougars got this started with adding a run in the top of the first inning. Albany State answered in the bottom of the first inning building an early lead. Glory Seay hit a single that scored Mikiayah Harris to tie the score. Destiny Herrera scored on a pass ball to take a 2-1 advantage. The Golden Rams held the Cougars scoreless for the two innings. Sydney Pettus secured a home run in the bottom of the third inning to edge the Cougars 3-1. Rebecca Blanton then filed out to center field to score Glory Seay adding its final run of the contest. Columbus State remained scoreless until the fifth inning with the Cougars collecting eight runs to take a 9-4 lead. Hot bats continued in the final inning for the Cougars as they added eight runs to take the 16-4 victory.  
 
Sydney Pettus recorded a home run and one RBI, and Glory Seay finished going two-for-three at the plate, one run and one RBI. The Golden Rams collected six hits and left seven runners left on base.
Sydney Pettus was the losing pitcher who pitched five innings only allowing 15 runs, 17 hits and one strikeout in the 34 batters faced.
 
The Golden Rams will return to action on Thursday, April 1st as they host the Tigers of Edward Waters College. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
