Golden Rams Drop Close 64-60 Contest to Fort Valley State University

Box Score FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Albany State University women's basketball team dropped a close 64-60 contest to the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University on Saturday evening.
 
The Golden Rams (0-4) cut the margin to a single point in the final moments of the third quarter, the Wildcats (2-0) secured a three pointer to start the final period scoring and never lost the lead. Following a ASU basket to make it a two-point margin on the next possession, the host  went on a 14-2 run over the next 3:45 for the 14-point cushion, 58-44, with 5:27 left. ASU was unable to get any closer than the final four-point difference after a pair of foul shots with eight seconds left.


Edith Gordon led three double-figure ASU scorers with 15 points on five-of-seven from the floor. Johnson added two triples as part of her 12 points to go with nine rebounds and four assists. Chelsea Hill added 11 points and four boards. 
 
The Wildcats won the board battle, 41-34, but ASU forced 20 FVSU turnovers.
 
For the second night in a row, ASU put the first points on the board and held leads of 2-0 and 4-2 in the opening 3:09. The Wildcats did not take the lead for good until securing a layup to make it 11-10 at 3:01 left in the first frame. Fort Valley State led by as many as 12 points late in the second quarter, before a 32-22 halftime score.
  
The Albany State University women's basketball team will host its first home matchup of 2021 as they host the Golden Tigers of Tuskegee University on Tuesday, Feb. 9th. Tip off is set for 5 p.m.
