FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Albany State University women's basketball team suffered a tough 76-62 loss to the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University on Friday evening.
Kierra York led the Golden Rams with 17 points and five rebounds.
Bri'elle Johnson finished with adding 13 points.
Chelsea Hill added 12 points and six rebounds. Rounding out the double-figure scoring for the Golden Rams was
Kayla Milner with 11 points.
Albany State University started the contest taking a 4-0 lead with 8:41 left in the first quarter. Fort Valley answered with a trey with 5:19 showing in the quarter pushed the Wildcats ahead, 7-6, and the home team led the last 34:21 of the contest. After leading by 17 points at half, FVSU advanced its lead 51-26 in the third quarter and held ASU to no closer than eight points early in the final frame.
ASU shot 10 of 26 in the first 20 minutes to open the contest. On the night, the Golden Rams connected on over 41-percent and grabbed 17 offensive boards of its 29 team total.
Behind 58-39 after three quarters, the Golden Rams went on a 14-2 run four minutes into the fourth and cut the margin down to eight points, 64-56, with 4:16 left. With the score at 66-58 at 3:14, FVSU then secured a three-pointer to secure the 76-62 victory.
ASU will return to action on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 6, for a 5:30 p.m. tip off inside of HPE Arena.
