Golden Rams survive tough outing at Morehouse with 14-10 win

Rams are 5-0 in SIAC play this season

ATLANTA, GA – The Albany State Golden Rams (8-1, 5-0 SIAC) defeated the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers (3-6, 3-2 SIAC) at Lakewood Stadium.  The Golden Rams staved off an effort for MC to pull the upset, causing chaos in the SIC East standings, but it was not to be.

The resilient Golden Rams used 229 yards of total offense efficiently to outpace the Maroon Tigers.  Quarterback Dionte Bonneau had his most challenging day, throwing two interceptions that kept Morehouse in the game.  He went 16-36 for 141 yards in the air with a 19 yard touchdown to Javon Wooten.  Marcuis Fulks powered in the Golden Rams' only other score ultimately winning the game in the fourth quarter.

Fulks carried the load for ASU, gaining 106 tough yards on 19 carries.  Bonneau connected to seven different receivers, spreading the passing yardage out over the corps.

Brandarious Rawlings led the ASU defense with 9 tackles of which 8 were solos.  James Hawkins and Stephan Pierre had 7 tackles each, while Malik Barnes and Derek Davis had four each.

Morehouse was led by quarterback Michael Sims who went 14-29 with one interception.  In the third quarter, he hit Shon Strickland for a 5-yard touchdown to tie the game.  Fernando Sdelamora would add a 33-yard field goal in the fourth, but it was enough to catch the Golden Rams.

The next contest for ASU is the Fountain City Classic in Columbus, GA on Nov. 6 as they take on arch-rival Fort Valley State Wildcats.  That game is at the A.J. McClung Stadium at 2:00PM.

Five keys to victory for ASU:

• The ASU defense allowed only 205 yards of total offense
• The ASU defense limited Morehouse to 11 first downs
• ASU was 8-of-16 on third down conversions
• The ASU defense held MC on two fourth down attempts
• Marcuis Fulks kept possession in ASU's favor with 106 yards rushing
