ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Albany State University men's basketball team returns to the court on Wednesday, March 4th in the quarterfinals round of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Basketball Championship Tournament. The Golden Rams will face the Tigers of Benedict College. Tip-off is set for 7:45 p.m. at the Rock Hill Sports & Event Center.
The Golden Rams enters the contest (15-13, 12-7 SIAC) clinching the Eastern Division Title for the second year in a row.
Benedict has split the season series with the Golden Rams, losing 87-80 in overtime on Jan. 20 at home, and winning 65-58 on Feb. 22 on the road. Albany State outrebounded Benedict 35-30 in that contest.
Mario Young scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Golden Rams.
Randy McClure finished the contest with 16 points.
Joshua Jerome and
Kamil Brown scored 12 points each respectively. Rounding out the double-digit scoring for Albany State was
Napoleon Harris with 11 points.
The Golden Rams are scoring 62.5 points per game, 6.1 points below their season average of 68.6. They are led by senior forward
Randy McClure, who is averaging 15 points per game and 7.11 rebounds per game on 66.27 percent shooting from the field.
The winner of Wednesday's quarterfinal contest advances to a semifinal contest at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Wednesday's winner will face the winner of a Thursday quarterfinal matchup between Paine and Morehouse. The men's championship game is set for Saturday at 7 p.m.
