ALBANY, Ga. (Feb. 8, 2020) – Albany State University baseball team used a home field advantage to take a weekend series victory over Truett McConnell University. The Golden Rams opened with a 4-3 win on Friday and took the doubleheaders victories 7-3 and 6-0 on Saturday, which improves Albany State 4-1 on the season.
GAME ONE (4-3)
After TMU left two on base, Albany State got off to a strong start scoring three earned runs off a single and a double in the bottom of the first (0-3). The Bears were unable to score again with two on base in the second and the Golden Rams added another run in the fifth (0-4). A defensive error by Albany's right fielder allowed TMU to score twice (2-4) but TMU singled to center field drove home Rowland to put the Bears within one run in the top of the eighth (3-4), but neither team was capable of scoring the rest of the way.
Kevin Bryant led the offense going 2-for-4, while TJ Thomas, Will Berry,
Chasen Roulhac and
Peter Setterich added a hit apiece. Senior
Blake Howell made the start throwing 6.0 innings of three hits, zero runs, four walks and seven strikeouts.
Aaron Ginn pitched two innings of one hit, three runs, one walk and two strikeouts.
Michael Reddick relieved Ginn throwing 1.0 innings of zero hits, zero runs, one walk and one strikeout.
GAME TWO (7-3)
Albany State got out early again by three (0-3) in the bottom of the second and added another in the bottom of the third (0-4). TMU answered with adding its only three runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut ASU's lead (3-4). Nonetheless, the Golden Rams answered with three more in the bottom half (3-7) and the Bears were never capable of recovering.
Senior
Chasen Roulhac was(3-for-4) at the plate, while TJ Thomas,
Kyle Walker and
Jon Henry added a hit apiece.
Blaylor Galice made the start throwing three innings of three hits, three earned runs, two walks and two shutouts.
Tyler Berry and
Chasen Roulhac relieved Galice for the final four innings.
GAME THREE (6-0)
After two scoreless innings, the Golden Rams singled to center field to get up on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third (0-1). Although both teams went head to head holding one another scoreless for the fourth and fifth innings, Albany State scored five more runs in the bottom of the sixth on five runs (0-6).
The Golden Rams collected nine hits and was led by
Gavin Sloan and TJ Thomas who both was 2-for-four at the plate.
Malik Barrington made the start throwing six innings of one hit, zero runs and three shutouts.

The Golden Rams will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 5:00 p.m. as they host the Cougars of Columbus State University.
