ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany State University women's and men's basketball teams returns to the court on Saturday, February 22
nd as they host the Tigers of Benedict College. Tip-off is set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. at the ASU West Campus Arena.
The women's basketball team enters the contest (6-18, 4-12 SIAC) securing a 83-50 victory over the Lions of Paine College on Thursday, February 20th.
Senior
Ciera Norman scored a career-high 35 points, and the Albany State women's basketball team pulled away early and cruised to an 83-50 victory over Paine College tonight at the ASU West Campus Arena.
Norman's 35 points – the most by an Albany State player this season – came on two 3-point field goals, nine two-pointer and 15 free throws.
Alexandria James added 24 points, and
Tyra Thompson scored eight off the bench.
Alexis Smith pulled down a team-leading nine rebounds despite playing just 29 minutes. Norman,
Breanna Wilson and
Tyra Thompson all added eight rebounds each respectively.
Albany State scored 11 points off 10 Paine College turnovers and got 16 points from the bench, which played its most minutes of the season. The Golden Rams out-rebounded Paine 47-40 and had five steals – three from Norman.
The Tigers jumped out to a quick 5-3 lead and led 17-13 at the end of one quarter. That turned into a 36-27 halftime lead.
Albany State would outscore the Lions in the third quarter to take a 61-42 lead to the final period. The Golden Rams would then empty the bench in the fourth, getting double-digit minutes from four of seven bench players.
Keondra Archie led Paine with 12 points and four rebounds. Tania Ward added five.

Kamil Brown scored 17 points and dished out four assists to help the Albany State men's basketball team to a 73-53 win over Paine Montana on Thursday night at the ASU West Campus Arena.
ASU (15-11 overall) extended its home winning streak to two games.
The Golden Rams never trailed in the contest taking a 12-9 lead just over midway through the first half, to take a 34-24 lead in the locker room at the half.
ASU brought the same momentum into the second half opening with a 15-0 run over a four-minute stretch to grow its lead 41-26 with 15:34 left in the contest.
The Golden Rams would continue to add points with adding its final points of the contest on a 3-pointer by
Joshua Jerome to cruise to the 73-51 victory.
Five Golden Rams finished the contest scoring in double-digits.
Joshua Jerome finished the game with 16 points and seven rebounds. Senior
Napoleon Harris contributed 12 points. Rounding out the double-digit scoring was
Mario Young and
Randy McClure who both added 10 each respectively.
ASU committed only 13 turnovers in the game while forcing the Lions into 20. The Golden Rams posted a 22-4 edge in points on turnovers.
