HOOPS CENTRAL: Albany State at Clark Atlanta University

ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany State University women's and men's basketball teams returns to the court on Monday, February 17th as they travel to Atlanta, Georgia for a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup against the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University. Tip-off is set for 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. inside L.S. Epps Gymnasium. 
 

The women's basketball team enters the contest (4-18, 2-12 SIAC) falling to the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University 48-38 on Saturday, February 15th.

Trailing 8-6 with 3:49 to go in the first quarter, FVSU ran off a 10-2 spurt to end the period for a 16-10 lead and never lost it the rest of the contest. The Wildcats extended it to 13 points by intermission, 27-14, and took a 36-16 advantage into the final 10 minutes. The Golden Rams forced some late turnovers to cut a 21-point margin down to the final 10-point difference.
 
Alexandria James led the Golden Rams with contributing 19 points and five bounds. James was nine-of-18 from the floor. Ciera Norman added 13 points and one rebound.

The Golden Rams finished the contest shooting 31.5 percent from the floor. ASU secured 11 points off turnovers.

The Golden Rams enters the contest (13-11, 10-5 SIAC) yielded a 75-72 decision to the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University on Saturday, February 15th.
 
After ASU (13-11/10-5 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) edged ahead with a foul shot, Williams threw down a breakaway dunk after a steal and followed it up with a baseline jumper for a 64-61 home lead with 2:11. Shawn Foxbrennen made his final two of his game-best 21-point night on a jumper in the lane as the Wildcats scored eight consecutive points overall. The Golden Rams cut the difference to two points, 73-71, with nine seconds showing, but Zachary Boggs iced the win with a pair of free throws with six ticks left.
 
With the victory, FVSU (6-18/4-11 SIAC East) takes both meetings with its arch rival for the first time since equaling the feat in the 2016-17 season. The Wildcats won the first meeting, 72-64, in Albany back on Jan. 25.
 
Foxbrennen hit 7-of-11 from the floor with a pair of triples and all five of his free throws for the 21 points. He also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Williams made half of his 12 attempts for 16 tallies to go with four rebounds, three assists and four steals.
 
FVSU forced ASU into 26 turnovers for the evening.
 
Mario Young finished with top honors for the Golden Rams with 16 points.
