ALBANY, Ga. - The Albany State University women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory season opener victory over Fort Valley State University.
The Golden Rams jumped out to a 1-0 lead after doubles competition that featured freshman Ana Maria Forero (Bogota, Colombia) and freshman
Doylisha Copeland (Cairo, Ga.) claiming a 6-0 win at the No. 1 doubles while freshman
Gracyn Virgil (Macon, Ga.) and
Jordan Foston (Atlanta, Ga.) were victorious at the No. 2 doubles, 6-3.
Alani Gauthier (Marietta, Ga.) along with
LaToya Boyd (Dunwoody, Ga.) also grabbed a 6-0 win at the No. 3 doubles.
The momentum carried over into singles play as the Golden Rams cruised to victories in singles No. 1-6, including 6-1, 6-2 wins from Boyd and Forero, respectively.
The Golden Rams will return to action on February 20-22 as they travel to Columbia, South Carolina for the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tennis Round-Up #1 hosted by Benedict College.
