ALBANY, Ga. (February 1, 2020) - The Albany State University women's basketball team fell to the Tigers of Savannah State University 70-52 this evening at the ASU West Campus Arena.
The Golden Rams are currently 4-16 on the season, while the Tigers now hold a 11-5 overall record.
First Half
The opening minutes of the game saw missed shots and turnovers from both teams as they worked to take the lead. Despite the Tigers securing a few baskets to get on boards, SSU jumped ahead to take a 19-11 first quarter lead.
Mimicking the opening quarter, the Golden Rams attempted to get in the game, but missed shots and lack of rebounds plagued the Golden Rams advances. The halftime score ruled in favor of the visiting Tigers, who used a 15-0 run to bring the score 34-11.
Second Half
Although the attempt was noted, ASU was not able to gain control of the game in the final two quarter. After trailing 45-37 in the third quarter, the game ruled in favor of the visiting team with a score of 70-52.
Despite the loss, the Golden Rams led the game in points out of turnovers (17-16).
Leaders
Alexandria James and
Tyra Thompson led the Golden Rams with 12 points each, while Yolanda givens was not too far behind with nine points. Thompson secured nine rebounds for ASU while
Alexis Smith tallied nine boards.
