Box Score AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Albany State University women's basketball was unable to upset host Georgia Southwestern State University Tuesday night, falling to the Lady Hurricanes 74-50. With the loss the Golden Rams fall to 0-2 on the season, while Georgia Southwestern improves to 2-0.
The Golden Rams were led by sophomore Kierra York who led all scorers with 19 points. York was 7-of-16 from the field, while also chipping in eight rebounds.
Albany State stuck with the Lady Hurricanes throughout the first quarter, pulling to within nine points, 17-8, off a layup by Passion Thomas at the 2:02 mark. But by the half Georgia Southwestern had extended their advantage to 12, 34-22.
At half time the Golden Rams were shooting an impressive 46 percent from the floor to the Lady Hurricanes 21.1 percent but were held to 11 attempts to Georgia Southwestern's 19 attempts. Albany State was out rebounded by one in the first half.
GSW started the second half on a mission, as they grew their led 51-31 in the first seven minutes. The Lady Hurricanes extended their lead to 58-39 to close of the third quarter. The Golden Rams continued to fight back closing out the final quarter of the contest with adding 11 points.
Albany State gave-up 31 turnovers to Georgia Southwestern. The Lady Hurricanes were able to capitalize of the Golden Rams errors throughout the game, scoring 29 points off turnovers to Albany State's eight.
The Golden Rams finished the contest outrebounding GSW, 52-44. Albany State secured 14 second chance points.
