Parker scores 24 in loss to Georgia Southwestern, 96-82

AMERICUS, Ga. – Malik Parker scored 17 of his team-high 24 points in the first half and Jordan Simpson also added 16 points to lead the Golden Rams as they fell to Georgia Southwestern inside Storm Dome on Monday night. 

Parker led Albany State (0-2, 0-0 SIAC) on the night, scoring a season-high 24 points, hitting a game-high six three-pointers and added three assists as the Golden Rams shot 42.3 percent (11-26) from behind the arc in the contest. Jordan Simpson added 12 of his 16 points in the second half, while Titus Burns and Khalif Napoleon added 12 points each respectively in the loss.

Dontevius Tatum led the Hurricanes (2-0, 0-0 PBC) with 24 points, while Noah Louis added 20 points and nine rebounds, hitting 14 of 17 free throws in the game. Five Hurricanes finished the contest achieving double figures scoring in the contest.

How It Happened
Georgia Southwestern started the game strong with a 4-0 run holding ASU scoreless until the 18:37 mark in the first half. Rodney Hunter added a three-pointer to cut the lead 4-3 with 18:37 left in the half. The Golden Rams took a 5-4 lead on a layup by Jordan Simpson.  
 
The Golden Rams continued to build its lead 20-13 with 10:25 left in the half. Malik Parker hit back-to-back 3-pointers to edge the Golden Rams 23-15. Albany State continued to put points on the board with leading by 12 with 1:22 left in the half.
 
The Golden Rams then cruised to take a 48-40 lead at halftime. 
 
Keeping the same momentum, the Golden Rams secured a 55-48 lead with 17:15 left in the contest. Albany State then added two free throws to grow its lead 61-54. The Hurricanes answered with tying the score 63 all at the 12:12 mark. GSW then took a 76-65 lead over the Golden Rams after adding two from the free throw line. The Golden Rams kept chipping away at the Hurricanes lead making the score 71-86 with 5:35 left.
 
GSW then grew its lead to 95-78 with 00:50 seconds left in the game. The Golden Rams continued to fight the remaining seconds of the contest with GSW coming out on top 96-82. 

The Golden Rams shot 42 percent (29-69) from the floor in the game but secured 18 points off of turnovers in the loss. Georgia Southwestern held the 44-36 rebounding edge in the game, hitting 51.7 percent (30-58) from the field in the contest in their second consecutive victory.
