ALBANY, Ga. – Despite battling to the final buzzer, the Albany State University men's basketball team dropped its season opener 61-57 tonight against Georgia Southwestern State University. ASU moves to 0-1 on the young season while the Hurricanes improved to 1-0 with the victory.
How It Happened
Albany State University started the game strong with a 4-0 run holding GSW scoreless until the 16:35 mark in the first half.
The Golden Rams continued to build its lead 12-10 with 9:42 left in the half. GSW continued to fight coming taking a one-point lead with 1:25 left in the half.
The Golden Rams continued to fight to take a 20-18 lead at halftime.
Keeping the same momentum, the Golden Rams secured a 31-30 lead with 15:09 left in the contest. The Hurricanes answered with tying the 33 all at the 13:56 mark. Both teams would then go back and forth with the Golden Rams coming within one 58-57 at the 1:00 mark.
GSW then grew its lead to 60-57 with 00:22 seconds left in the game. The Golden Rams continued to fight the remaining seconds of the contest with GSW taking a 61-57 victory.

Joshua Jerome scored 14 points making 3-9 from beyond the arc. He also dished out seven rebounds and one steal.

Malik Parker made his debut as a Golden Ram added 12 points respectively.
