HOOPS CENTRAL: Albany State vs Clark Atlanta University

 ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany State University women's and men's basketball teams returns to the court on Monday, January 27th as they host the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Jones Brothers Health, Physical Education and Recreation Complex. 
 
The women's basketball team enters the contest (3-15, 1-9 SIAC) falling to the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University 75-67 on Saturday, January 25th.
 
Both teams battled for the lead but the score was tied 17-all at the end of the first quarter. Leading 31-28 midway through the second frame, FVSU scored 11-straight points over a three-minute period for a 42-28 lead. Fort Valley State advantaged the lead to 25 points, 63-36, on a layup at 4:15. The Golden Rams made a late fourth-quarter charge, but they could get no closer than the eight-point final margin.
 
Alexandria James led the Golden Rams with contributing 26 points and five bounds. James was two-of-four from the three point line. Ciera Norman added 16 points and three rebounds.
Taziha Fanning led the way for the Wildcats with making 7-of-9 attempts for 19 points to go with her 17 rebounds and four assists. Nola Carter finished with a double-double performance of 16 points on 7-for-14 tries and 11 boards.
 
The Golden Rams finished the contest shooting 55.6 percent from the free throw line. ASU secured 20 points off turnovers.

The Golden Rams enters the contest (11-9, 8-3 SIAC) falling to the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University 72-64 on Saturday, January 25th.
 
Albany State went out to a 15-6 lead in the opening 10 minutes. FVSU chipped away at the margin and reversed the difference to an eight-point lead, 31-23, before it had a 33-27 lead at intermission.

Tied at 50-50 with 7:13 left, a fast break layup following a steal gave FVSU the lead for good. The Golden Rams came back to within a point, 53-52, at 5:49. Fort Valley secured a three pointer and a jumper to take a 60-52 advantage with 4:06 left in the left in the game. Albany State fought to secure the victory but added its final points of the contest with 00:19 seconds left on a layup by Juwan High to bring the score, 72-64.

Randy McClure led the way for the Golden Rams with a double-double performance finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Juwan High added 17 points for ASU. Rounding out ASU double-digit scoring was Joshua Jerome collecting 12 points and shooting perfectly from the three-point line (2-of-2).

 
Shawn Foxbrennen paced FVSU with 20 points, 12 in the second half, with 12 of 13 from the foul line and 12 rebounds for a double-double. K'Viontae Williams added 16 points. Strickland rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 tallies.
