ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany State University men's basketball team snapped a four game winning streak on Saturday night. Albany State fell 72-64 to rival Fort Valley State at home during the 2020 Basketball Homecoming.
Albany State went out to a 15-6 lead in the opening 10 minutes. FVSU chipped away at the margin and reversed the difference to an eight-point lead, 31-23, before it had a 33-27 lead at intermission.
Tied at 50-50 with 7:13 left, a fast break layup following a steal gave FVSU the lead for good. The Golden Rams came back to within a point, 53-52, at 5:49. Fort Valley secured a three pointer and a jumper to take a 60-52 advantage with 4:06 left in the left in the game. Albany State fought to secure the victory but added its final points of the contest with 00:19 seconds left on a layup by
Juwan High to bring the score, 72-64.
Randy McClure led the way for the Golden Rams with a double-double performance finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Juwan High added 17 points for ASU. Rounding out ASU double-digit scoring was
Joshua Jerome collecting 12 points and shooting perfectly from the three-point line (2-of-2).
Shawn Foxbrennen paced FVSU with 20 points, 12 in the second half, with 12 of 13 from the foul line and 12 rebounds for a double-double.
K'Viontae Williams added 16 points. Strickland rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 tallies.
Albany State University will return to action on Monday, January 27
th as they host the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Jones Brother Health, Physical Education and Recreation Complex.
