ATLANTA, Ga. – The Albany State University football team dominated the host Clark Atlanta University to pull away for a 54-19 win on Saturday from Panthers Stadium.
The victory improves the Golden Rams to (2-2, 1-0 SIAC) on the year in its first SIAC conference game of the season. Clark Atlanta slipped to (0-4, 0-2 SIAC) with the loss.
Clark Atlanta University used a 47-yard fumble recovery by Terrance Harris to take a 6-0 lead early in the first quarter. The Golden Rams answered in the second quarter by adding a 53 yard run by
Tracy Scott to lead 7-6.
But during the first three minutes of the second quarter, Albany State converted three consecutive Panther turnovers into touchdowns to take a 20-6 lead.
The Golden Rams converted two following CAU three-and-outs into a touchdown and a field goal to extend their lead to 30-6 at halftime.
Albany State scored 17-unanswered points in the third quarter to go up 47-6. In the fourth quarter, Clark Atlanta tossed two touchdown passes to Corey King, one for 27 yards and another for five yards, those touchdowns bookended a 72-yard TD run by ASU's
Matavion Brooks.
The CAU defense only gave up 57 passing yards, but ASU was able to rush for 393 yards and six touchdowns. Harris finished with nine tackles, seven of them solo, one tackle for a loss and forced the fumble that he returned for a touchdown.
Albany State's Brooks rushed for 123 yards, while
Marcuis Fulks added 107 yards and a TD. Scott finished with 91 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Defenisvely, ASU was led by
Terry Compton and
Christian Murray who contributed seven tackles each. Compton also recorded one tackle for loss.
The Golden Rams will return home as they host Tuskegee University on October 5
th with kick off scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
