Golden Rams Fall to Valdosta State In Final Non-Conference Doubleheader

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Albany State University softball team fell to No. 16 Valdosta State University in doubleheader action 9-3 and 4-0 on Tuesday at Steel's Diamond.  VSU improved to 32-12 on the year, while ASU fell to 16-29. 
 
  
The Blazers loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of a walk, single and a fielding error.  VSU secured a home run to take a 4-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth, the Blazers stole home with two out for a 5-0 lead.
 
In the top of the fifth with two out, ASU's Mikiayah Harris doubled home a run for a 5-1 score.  Lavette Tucker took a 0-1 count to left field for her seventh home run of the season and a 5-3 VSU lead. 
 
VSU began the bottom of the sixth with two singles and then collected a bunt single to load the bases.  A walk then added a score for the blazers to take a 6-3 lead.  A single to left center, plated two runs for an 8-3 score.  VSU then added its final run on a single to left to collect a 9-3 victory.
 
For the opener, VSU tallied nine runs on nine hits with one error, while ASU had three runs on five hits with one error. Harris was 2 for 3 with a run scored and a RBI for the Golden Rams, while Tucker was 1 for 3 with a run scored and two RBI. 
 
Aryn McGowan tossed a complete game, only allowing nine hits, nine runs, while striking out eight with five walks. 
 
 
In the second game VSU reached base on an error and then scored on a heads up play from second on a fly out to right, scoring for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.  In the bottom of the fourth with one out, the Blazers added another home run of the day for a 3-0 lead. 
 
ASU hit three-straight singles to left field to load the bases in the top of the sixth with one out.  VSU then struck out Glory Seay for the third out.
 
VSU added its final run in the bottom of the sixth on an error by the Golden Rams for a 4-0 lead and to take the victory. 
 
Lauren Lowery went all seven innings, allowing seven hits, four runs and walked one.  Shepherd was 2 for 3 at the plate. 
 
The Golden Rams will close out the regular season at home as they host Clark Atlanta University on Apr. 25-26. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
