ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany State University softball team finished strong to take the series victory over Fort Valley State 11-3 and 2-0 at the Golden Rams Field.
The Golden Rams leading 4-1 in the top of the fifth, the visiting FVSU collected a double, scoring two Wildcats (13-21 ,7-11 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) to cut ASU's lead 5-3. The Golden Rams (16-2, 13-2 SIAC) added a solo homer in the fifth before finishing the game with six in the sixth to cruise to a 11-3 victory.
Scoreless through 5.5 innings, Albany State scored two runs on a pair of doubles for a 2-0 tally. A lead-off
Shakerra Geter double and
Kayla Brown single started the FVSU seventh, but ASU retired the next three hitters to end the late contest.
Lavette Tucker went 2-for-3 in the second game with a doubles and one run. Harris was 1-for-2 on the day with a run. MGowan added a double in game two. Impressive work on the mound by
Aryn McGowan kept the Wildcats scoreless only allowing six hits and striking out 12.
The Golden Rams will next travel to face the Blazers of Valdosta State University (VSU) on Tuesday, April 23
rdin doubleheader action. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
After the VSU contest the Golden Rams will return home to close out the regular season as they host Clark Atlanta University on April 25-26
th. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
