ALBANY, Ga. (April 12, 2019) – The Albany State University women's tennis team returns to action on Saturday as they travel to face NCAA Division III opponent Huntingdon College at George S. Gibbs Tennis Center.
The Golden Rams' match against Huntingdon College (10-3) gets underway at 3 p.m. (CDT).
The Golden Rams jumped out to a 1-0 lead after doubles competition that featured freshman Ana Maria Forero (Bogota, Colombia) and junior
Jordan Foston (Atlanta, Ga.) claiming a 7-5 win at the No. 1 doubles while junior
Alani Gauthier (Marietta, Ga.) along with sophomore
LaToya Boyd (Dunwoody, Ga.) were victorious at the No. 2 doubles, 6-2. Senior Jena Wade (Milton, Fla.) and sophomore
Lindsay Ashford (Snellville, Ga.) also grabbed a 6-2 win at the No. 3 doubles.
In singles competition, Albany State (7-12) picked up 6-2, 6-3 wins at No. 1-2 and No. 6 and 6-3, 6-1 wins at No. 3 and No. 4. The Golden Bulls recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5.
As a team, Huntingdon College enters the match coming off a 9-0 victory over LaGrange on April 10
th. In singles,
Josie Waddell (No. 1),
Zoya Robinson (No. 2),
Clayton Waring (No. 3),
Lucy Burch (No. 4)
Kacey Stephens (No. 5) and
Heather Tabor (No. 6) each earned wins over the Panthers.
In doubles, Waddell and Robinson came together to win 8-2 at No. 1. The team of Tabor-
Kacy Howard earned their win by beating LaGrange 8-1 at No. 2. Burch and Stephens won by default at No. 3.
ABOUT THE SERIES: The Golden Rams hold a 0-5 all-time record against Huntingdon College. The last time the two schools met was on March 8, 2019, where the Hawks of Huntingdon College collected a 0-7 victory over Albany State University.
