Baseball Collects Weekend Series Conference Victoires over Clark Atlanta

ALBANY, Ga. (March 23, 2019)– The Golden Rams used a home field advantage to secure the weekend Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series victory (13-3,19-2, 0-1, 17-3) over the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University on March 22-23 at the Golden Rams Field. 
 
With the wins, Albany State improved to 16-15, 8-0 SIAC to remain undefeated in conference play while the visiting Panthers of Clark Atlanta University moves to 4-16, 1-6 on the season. 

The visiting Panthers of Clark Atlanta University was the first to add a point to the board when Calvin Butler stole home to take a 1-0 lead. The Golden Rams answered in the bottom of the first when Travis Ray Jr. doubled to left field recording 2 RBIs to score Chasen Roulhac and Ernis Reyes. The Golden Ram then took a 2-1 lead. Quantico Dodson-Williams homered recording 3 RBIs finishing the inning ahead 5-1. In the top of the third inning the Panthers plated a run to cut ASU's lead 5-2. 
 
From this point the game was in favor of the Golden Rams. In the bottom of the third ASU's Theo Smith double recording an RBI with Kevin Bryant II scoring. Quantico Dodson-Williams collected his second homerun recording 2 RBIs finishing the inning with a 8-2 advantage. Clark Atlanta remained scoreless over the next three innings. 
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Ernis Reyes hit one out of the park recording an RBI. Dodson-Williams doubled to left field recording 2 RBIs with Johnathan Cirullo and Travis Ray Jr. crossing home plate to bring the score 11-2. Max McCray advanced to second on an error by the catcher and Dodson-Williams scored to grow the Golden Rams advantage 12-2. Kevin Bryant II walked with the bases loaded advancing the runners and McCray scoring to close out the scoring for the Golden Rams. The Panthers then added a run in the final inning but fell to Albany State University 13-3.
 
 
Game 2: Albany State 19, Clark Atlanta 2
 
Albany State University brought the same momentum into the second game adding two runs in the first inning to take a 2-1 lead. The next time at bat the Golden Rams collected five runs to grow its lead 7-1. The game stayed in favor of the Golden Rams as they secured seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to grow its lead 14-1. Albany State held the Panthers scoreless for four innings. In the bottom of the fourth the Golden Rams added five more runs to take a 19-1 advantage. Clark Atlanta added its final run of the contest in the sixth inning to end the game falling to the Golden Rams 19-2. The Golden Ram finished the contest outhitting the Panthers 13-6. 
 
Game 3: Albany State 1, Clark Atlanta University 0
Malik Barrington pitched all innings and allowed just three hits while striking out 12 batters. Impressive work offensively and defensively held both teams scoreless until the seventh inning. The Golden Rams tallied three hits in the game as Ryan McClendon scored on a balk in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Game 4: Albany State 17, Clark Atlanta 3
Albany State University found its grove in the final contest of the series wasting no time with adding four runs in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. The Panthers answered with plating three runs in the top of the second. The next time at bat in the bottom of the second inning the Golden Rams collected two runs to grow its lead 6-3. The game stayed in favor of the Golden Rams as they secured eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning 14-1. Albany State held the Panthers scoreless for the remainder of the contest. In the bottom of the fifth the Golden Rams added one run to take a 15-3 advantage. The Golden Rams added its final run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth inning when Travis Ray Jr. homered recording 2 RBIs and Tate Thompson crossing home plate to cruise to a 17-3 victory. The Golden Ram finished the contest outhitting the Panthers 17-5. 

 
Up Next
The Golden Rams will next travel to Columbia, South Carolina for a four-game SIAC series against the Tigers of Benedict College on March 30-31st. The first game is slated for 12 p.m. Albany State will close out the series on Sunday, March 31st at 1 p.m.
