Albany State Softball Team Yielded a 4-2 Decision at the SIAC Crossover Tournament

ALBANY, Ga. (March 17, 2019) – Albany State University softball team finished the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Crossover Tournament yielding a 4-2 overall conference record. The SIAC Softball Crossover Tournament was hosted by Miles College on March 15-17th in Jasper, Alabama.
 
ALBANY STATE 5, TUSKEGEE UNIVERISTY 4
The Tuskegee University softball team entered the contest adding two runs when Chelsea Mowery doubled to right field scoring Smith and Lawrence to take a 2-0 lead. The Golden Rams answered in the bottom of the first when Mikiayah Harris scored on a ground out to the shortstop to cut TU's lead 2-1. Blanton then walked advancing the runners on base with Amaya Terry scoring to tie the game 2-all.
 
In the top of the second, TU's Lawrence singled to second base to score Mason to take its second lead of the contest 3-2. ASU then collected three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 5-4 lead. Harris singled to left field to bring Seay and Norman across home plate. The Golden Rams then added its final point of the contest with Mikiayah Harris scoring on a wild pitch. TU added its final run in the third inning when Hawkins singled scoring Gibbons. ASU then cruised to a 5-4 victory to collect its first SIAC conference victory win of the season.
 
On the mound for ASU was senior Aryn McGowan how pitched seven innings, allowing only 10 hits, four runs, four errors, three walks and four strikeouts.
 
ALBANY STATE 10, LANE COLLEGE 2
The Albany State University softball team added its first runs of the contest in the top of the second, when Lowery singled to right field and Seay scored. Keychelle Evans the singled down the left field line to plate Graham and Lowery taking a 3-0 lead. ASU dominated the third inning with hot hitting adding seven runs to grow its lead 10-0. The Golden Rams finished the third inning with recording six hits on seven runs.
 
The Dragons of Lane College added it's only run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Deloach doubled to left field and Parks scored. Followed by Raelynn Lee singled to the pitcher and Deloach came across home plate. Impressive work on the mound by L. Lowery helped the Golden Rams secure its second SIAC conference victory of the season. Lowery pitched all innings allowing four hits, two runs, two errors, one walk and three strikeouts.  
 
 
ALBANY STATE 3, KENTUCKY STATE 4
The Thorobreds took the early lead on a two-out, two-run single by freshman Olivia Saylor. KSU had runners on second and third with no outs, but needed the clutch two-out blooper down the right field line to plate a pair of runs.

Albany State took the lead in the third inning as a two-out error allowed two runs to across the plate. The Golden Rams' first run of the inning came on a sacrifice fly which scored Mikiayah Harris.
 
From there, KSU's Flores held down the fort. She sat the Golden Rams down in order in the sixth and worked around a one-out double in the seventh to secure the victory.

Back-to-back two-out walks, the first by freshman Janae Graham and the latter by Bocanegra, pushed across the tying run in the fourth inning.

Mikiayah Harris finished 2-for-3 with a run, while Seay was 2-for-4 with a run scored.


ALBANY STATE 8, LEMOYNE-OWEN 4
Albany State University was the first to score in the contest in the top of the third inning when Lavette Tucker doubled and Mikiayah Harris scoring to take a 1-0 lead. LeMoyne-Owen when answered with adding a run in the bottom of the third to tie the game 1-all.
 
In the top of the fourth, the Golden Rams them plated two runs to take a 3-1 lead over the Magicians. From that point things were in favor of ASU with added three runs in the top of the sixth and two in the seventh innings to take the 8-4 victory.
 
Lavette Tucker hit 3-for-4 in the game with three RBI. Lauren Lowery had two hits and one run.
 
ALBANY STATE 1, SPRING HILL 4
The both teams entered the contest remaining scoreless the first three innings. The Golden Rams then added one run in the top of the fourth when Shepherd stole second and Mikiayah Harris stole home to take the lead.

The Badgers when left six runners on base through the first six innings. Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the seventh, Spring  Hill's Cassidy Mehr pinch hit for Tiffany Fairchild and was hit by a pitch, so was Carlisle Jamison to put two on with no outs. Kaycie Saxton singled to load the bases before a wild pitch pushed across the tying run.

After a ground out and strikeout, SHC's Thomas came to the plate and hit the three-run shot to right field to win the game.

Seay hit 2-for-3 in the game. Harris and Shepherd both finished with recording one hit each.

Hannah Brenton pitched the complete game for SHC, allowing one earned run off five hits and no walks. She struck out four.

Aryn McGowan took the loss. She allowed four earned off eight hits and struck out five.
 
ALBANY STATE 6, MILES COLLEGE 5
In the final contest of the crossover Albany State University faced host Miles College, where the Golden Rams collected a 6-5 victory. The Golden Rams wasted no time with adding two points in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Miles then found some rhythm in the top of the third when the Golden Bears collected three runs to take a 3-2 lead.
 
The Golden Rams then added one run in the bottom of the fourth when Terry flied out to center field and Stewart scored to tie the game 3-all. Miles then added one run in the top of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. The Golden Rams answered with adding three addition runs to take a 6-4 lead. Miles continued to rally adding one run in the final inning but the Golden Rams came away with a 6-5 SIAC Conference victory.
 
The Golden Rams will return back to action as they host Valdosta State University in a non-conference matchup on March 20th. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
