BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 1, 2019) - The Albany State University men's basketball team (14-15) suffered a tough 65-59 loss to the Golden Bear of Mile College in the semi-final round at the 2019 SIAC Basketball Tournament.
Jared Harrington finished with 22 points on 7-of-11 shots from the field to go along with one rebound.
Tyrell Williams collected 12 points, 13 rebounds one assist and two blocks.
Mario Young posted a nine-point performance, to go with three rebounds, two blocks and one steal.
The Golden Rams forced 14 Miles College turnovers in the contest. Both teams finished the second half with the same amount of points 36 all. The score was 29-23 at the half, but Miles College continued to add points with 36 points in the second half to grow its lead with 2:05 to go. From there, the Golden Bears continued to add points to the board ending the game 65-59.
Devonte Fuller paced Miles College with 13 points on 6-of-14 shooting, while Damian Archer and Jelani Watson-Gayle added 12 points each. The Golden Bears started the game strong securing a 10-point advantage over the Golden Rams, a lead that they held the lead the entire contest.
The Golden Bears a 29-23 halftime advantage, with eight different Golden Bears scoring in the opening period.
Despite their turnovers, Albany State managed to stay in the game in the second half due to their free throw shooting, as they connected on 12 of 14 shots in the second half. Miles College finished the contest shooting 44.2 percent from the free throw line. The Golden Rams finished the contest shooting 77.8 percent from the free throw line.
SECOND HALF DOMINANCE: Albany State has scored 25 or more points in the second half of majority of the games this season, scoring 36 in the second half.
