ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany State University (ASU) men's basketball team opened the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play with a 69-52 victory over Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers on Saturday afternoon in the West Campus Arena.
The Golden Rams (3-4, 1-0 SIAC East) built an 18-11 lead with 7:40 remaining until halftime as the Badgers struggled to a 4-of-16 shooting performance out of the gate. By halftime, the Rams held a 35-26 advantage.
From that point the Golden Rams controlled the lead never looking back to cruise to a 69-52 victory.
Randy McClure of the Golden Rams had 20 points as ASU shot 49.1% (27-55) from the floor and 20% (3-15) from 3-point distance while losing 7 turnovers to 3 Badger steals. The Golden Rams knocked down 57.1% (12-21) of their free throw opportunities.
SHC's
Chase Shellman had 13 points with 9 rebounds while sophomore guard
Jordan McIlwain added 11 points to the SHC scorebook. SHC shot 37% (20-54) from the field and just 15.4% (2-13) from 3-point range. The Badgers suffered 15 turnovers against 8 steals by the Golden Rams, but took a 37-35 edge in rebounding. At the free throw line, SHC made 76.9% (10-13) of their foul shots.
The Golden Rams will next visit Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday, November 30 at 2 p.m. for a non-conference game.
