LATE FREE THROWS PUSH ASU PAST PAINE

ALBANY, Ga. | Albany State hosted Paine College on Monday night at The Arena at West Campus.

In a fourth quarter that saw five ties and eight lead changes, ASU held a four point advantage with under a minute to play when Paine's Keondra Archie hit two free throws and took advantage of a Golden Rams turnover to convert a layup on the other end and tie the contest with 19 seconds remaining.

Paine would commit a foul the next time down the floor and Alexandria James netted two free throws to push the lead back to two points.

Archie answered right back with another made basket to knot the game at 70. When James missed a potential go-ahead jumper, Shantrell Holland pulled in a rebound and was fouled sending her to the line with seven seconds to go in the game. Holland sank both to give ASU the win, 72-70.

Albany State (6-15, 5-6) was efficient fro the charity stripe, knocking down 21 free throws for the game. 

Tyra Thomason registered a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. James added 15 points of her own while Ciara Norman scored 11 points.

Keondra Archie led Paine (1-18, 1-10) with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Albany State will have the week and weekend off before hosting Clark Atlanta on Monday, February 4th. Tip off is set for 5:30 pm.
