ORANGEBURG, SC. | Albany State traveled to South Carolina on Monday to take on former SIAC rival Claflin University.

ASU carried a 13-8 lead into the second quarter but saw it quickly evaporate as the Panthers erupted for 31 points in the second period.

For the night, the Golden Rams outshot the host school, finishing the game having shot 37 percent from the floor compared to 29 percent by Claflin. 

The difference in the game was turnovers. Albany State committed 26 turnovers to the Panthers seven. Claflin would convert those turnovers to 29 points compared to the visitors who managed just two points off of turnovers.

Alexandria James and Tyra Thompson both had 12 points for Albany State (5-13). 

Alexis Smith had a team-high nine rebounds while Ashley Johnson pulled in eight rebounds.

Dashia Jackson led Claflin (9-8) with 15 points and nine rebounds.

ASU will travel to Atlanta on Saturday for a conference matchup with the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
