DAVIS SPARKS COMEBACK WIN OVER MILES COLLEGE

Inside the Park Homer, Go-Ahead Run Keys Victory Over Golden Bears

ALBANY- The Albany State University Golden Rams scored two, including a go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Miles College 3-2 in softball action at the SIAC softball tournament.

In the top of the fifth the Golden Bears took 2-1 advantage when Zakierra Webb hit an RBI single to center field, scoring Kendruena McPherson from second base. Miles held the Rams off the board in the bottom of the inning, retiring the first three batters and sending the game to the sixth.

In ASU's half of the sixth inning, McPherson struck out the first two batters, before the Rams sent Kendyl Davis up to pinch hit for Lavette Tucker. Facing a 0-2 count, Davis hit an inside the park home run to knot the game at 2-2. After Aryn McGowan reached on a single to right field, Mikiyah Harris doubled to send her home, and give ASU their first lead of the afternoon.

The Golden Bears set up a rally attempt, putting runners at first and second with two out but McPherson was tagged out at third after Webb reached on a fielder's choice to end the game.

Miles scored the first run of the game off an RBI single from Davis Watkins and the Golden Rams tied the game in the second when Harris came home off a Miles throwing error.

Albany State will look to punch a ticket to the SIAC Championship game when they take on Kentucky State Friday afternoon at Gordon Park.
