GOLDEN RAMS ADVANCE TO SIAC TITLE GAME

ASU Softball Seeking First Conference Title Since 2013 Season

ALBANY- The Albany State University Golden Rams punched their ticket to the 2018 SIAC Softball Championship game with a thrilling 2-1 win over Kentucky State University Friday afternoon a Gordon Park.

The Golden Rams will take on the winner of tomorrow's loser bracket between Claflin University and Kentucky State. That matchup is scheduled for 11am tomorrow at Gordon Park.

In Friday's semifinal, KSU and Albany State played to a 1-1 tie through six and a half innings. The Golden Rams seized the win on the heels of some clutch hitting from Hampton, Georgia native Lavette Tucker. As it turns out Tucker, accounted for the Golden Rams' first and last hits of the game, the latter delivering ASU their berth in Saturday's title game.

Needing only one score for the win, two walks and a Thorobred error gave the Golden Rams the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the seventh. Both Danielle Turner and Brianna Murillo reached on back to back fielder's choices as Kentucky State got the force out at home plate.

With two outs and the bases still loaded, Tucker stepped in and slapped a walk-off single to right field, driving in Jade Williams for the winning run.

When the Golden Rams take the field tomorrow, they will be seeking their first SIAC Championship since 2013. The title game is slated to begin at 1pm at Gordon Park in Albany.
