ASU Softball Edges Lane College in Tourney Opener

ALBANY- The Albany State University softball team squeezed past Lane College 3-1 on the opening day of the SIAC Softball Tournament at Gordon Park.

The Golden Rams scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the third inning, capitalizing on three Dragon errors.

With two out and nobody on, back to back errors placed Danielle Turner and Brianna Murillio on second and first base. Lavette Tucker then drove in Turner with a single to left field and another error helped Jala Stewart reach, loading the bases for Albany State. Aryn McGowan drew a bases loaded walk and Mikiyah Harris singled to score Tucker and the Rams led 3-0.

The Dragons managed one run in the top of the sixth but would strand five runners over their next three trips to the plate. In the top of the seventh Lane had two outs and one on but the tying run Delayna Malveaux grounded out to third base to end the game.  

The Golden Rams advance to face Mile College at Gordon Park at noon on Friday.
