FAMILIA’S LATE HOMER LIFTS ASU PAST CLARK-ATLANTA

Golden Rams Advance; Will Face Miles College Saturday Morning

ALBANY- Riliani Familia hit a lead-off homer in the top of the ninth inning to propel Albany State University past Clark-Atlanta University Friday afternoon in SIAC Tournament action.

After Familia put the Rams back on top, back to back singles from CAU put a runner in scoring position with a go-ahead at first base. Tristan Rice, who entered late in the fifth inning, stuck out the next two batters before yielding a walk to load the bases. Rice then recorded a game-ending strikeout, getting Jordan Johnson to swing and the Rams held on for the thrilling victory.

The Golden Rams now advance in the winner's bracket for a semifinal matchup against Miles College tomorrow at West Campus Field. First pitch is scheduled for 10am.
Familia's late game heroics represented his second lead-off homer of the day. He got the Rams on the scoreboard and tied the game a 1-1 with a solo shot to left center to kick off the fifth inning. ASU later pulled ahead in the fifth when Tyler Morris' single to center field drove Nic Griggs home for a 2-1 lead.

The Panthers bounced back in the bottom of the inning with four run barrage to move in front 5-2. In the sixth, Familia drew a bases loaded walk and Griggs got an RBI ground out to first base to cut the Rams' deficit to 5-4. RBI singles from Kelvin Wimbish and Griggs and Familia's fly-out to right center scored another run in the seventh to make the score 7-5 in favor of the Golden Rams.

After Raphael Andrades reached on a two out double in the bottom of the eighth, Johnson sent him home with a single to right field. The Panthers pulled even when Shahir Gates' double plated Johnson.

Familia finished the day with four RBI while Andrades, who also hit two homers on the afternoon, drove in three.
