SOFTBALL SPLITS HOME FINALE WITH AUBURN-MONTGOMERY

ALBANY- The Albany State University softball team wrapped their home slate, splitting a doubleheader with Auburn University-Montgomery Wednesday afternoon at West Campus Field.

The Golden Rams opened the twin bill with a 4-1 victory before falling to the Warhawks in a shortened five innings, 10-0 in game two.

Game one was dictated by the long ball as all of the Golden Rams scores came via solo home runs. In the bottom of the first, Danielle Turner and Lavette Tucker hit back-to-back home runs to put the Rams up 2-0. It was Tucker's tenth this season, making her the first Golden Ram to reach double figures in homers this year.

Two batters later Aryn McGowan hit her sixth homer of the year to give the Rams a 3-0 advantage.

Even a Warhawk pitching change in the bottom of the second did little to slow ASU's momentum as Meghan Shepherd stepped to the plate and put the Golden Rams in front 4-0 with a solo shot to center field.

AUM finally got on the scoreboard the following inning when back-to-back doubles scored Michaelyn Foster.

McGowan went the distance for ASU from the pitcher's circle, improving her record to 11-9 as a starter.

In the nightcap and in front 2-0, the Warhawks erupted in the top of the fifth, scoring eight runs on seven hits and one error to shut out the Rams 10-0.

Parker Pinholster capped AUM's scoring run with a 3RBI homer. The Warhawks improve to 24-15 overall in 2018.

Albany State (22-20) will look to complete a perfect conference slate in a three game set at Fort Valley State April 20-21st.
