ASU SOFTBALL COMPLETES THE SWEEP ON SENIOR DAY

Golden Rams Breeze By Paine College

ALBANY- The Albany State University softball team cruised by Paine College in a doubleheader sweep (19-2, 19-0) Saturday afternoon at West Campus field.

Both games were shortened in the middle of the fifth due to the 8-run rule.

Senior Taylor Clemens got the nod for the pitcher's circle and improved to 3-1 as a starter this season as the Rams trampled the Lions 19-2 in game one. Fellow seniors Demeshia Russell and Brianna Murillo both finished the game with three RBI and Keyanna Dawson got her first home run of the season with a three RBI shot in the bottom of the third inning.

The Golden Rams opened the game with four runs in their half of the first then piled it on by scoring eight runs in the second inning.

In game two it was more of the same. Senior Jade Williams got in on the action during ASU's 10-run first inning with a 3RBI, inside the park home run, her first dinger of the season. Lavette Tucker was plated in the third inning on a sacrifice fly courtesy of Jordan Baranello and the Rams tallied eight runs in the bottom of the fourth for the final point spread.

The Golden Rams (21-19, SIAC 16-0) will return to action on Wednesday when they host Auburn-Montgomery in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3pm at West Campus Field.
