Bobcats Defeat Golden Rams in Non-Conference Doubleheader

ALBANY- The Albany State University softball team dropped two decisions to Georgia College on Tuesday evening at the West Campus.

The Bobcats snagged their first two wins of the season, topping ASU 12-7 in game one and 11-0 in the nightcap. Georgia College evens their record at 2-2 while the Golden Rams slip to 0-6 on the year.

In the afternoon's opener, Jade Williams hit a 2 RBI single in the bottom of the second to give the Golden Rams a 2-1 advantage. That lead would hold until the top of the fourth when the Bobcats reeled off a six run inning. GCSU got a double from Holland Coursey and a single from Sarah Couch to score runs while the Rams assisted by committed 3 critical errors.
In their half of the fourth inning, ASU responded with four runs to make the scores 7-6 in favor of Georgia College.
The Bobcats would put the game away in their next at bat. After putting a run on the board, Hannah Coursey hit a grand slam to make the score 12-7.
Brianna Murillo hit a lead-off homer in the 6th inning to account for the final point spread.

Bobcat starting pitcher Becca Meade allowed only one hit and struck out four in an 11-0 shutout of ASU in five innings.
Meade faced only 18 batters compared to 32 for the Ram's Lauren Lowery. Georgia College scored 11 runs on 12 hits and 5 Golden Ram errors. The Bobcats were ahead 5-2 but exploded for 7 runs in the top of the fifth inning to close the game out.
The Golden Rams will return to action on the road at Columbus State in a doubleheader on February 9th.
