ASU Gets Two Home Runs in 5-1 Win Over Southern Wesleyan

ALBANY-The Albany State University softball team split a doubleheader with Southern Wesleyan University Friday afternoon at West Campus softball field.
The Golden Rams got two homers to take game one 5-1 but were blanked 5-0 in the nightcap. The Warriors improve to 3-7 on the year behind game two's winning pitcher Hunter Hoskins. Aryn McGowan picked up the win of the Golden Rams in the opener.

Demeshia Russell and Lavette Tucker both had home runs to lead the Golden Rams to their first win of the season in game one of Friday's doubleheader. Russell's solo blast led off the bottom of the third inning to put ASU on the scoreboard first. In the bottom of the fifth the Warriors got a one out homer from Josie Edwards to tie the game at one apiece.
In their half of the fifth, the Rams got 4 runs on 3 hits and one SWU error. Brianna Murillo's RBI single scored Jade Williams then Lavette Tucker smashed a three run homer to left field to make the score 5-1 in favor of Albany State. The Golden Rams played solid defense to keep the Warriors at bay in game one. Lauren Lowery led the way with 6 putouts followed by 5 from Murillo and Williams fielded four from the Rams' outfield.
McGowan struck out five over a complete seven innings.

In game two, the Warriors scored in their first three at bats and coasted to a 5-0 shutout. The Golden Rams collected 8 hits but left as many runners stranded in the loss. SWU got out to a fast start due to two first inning errors from ASU. A solo homer from game two's winning pitcher Hunter Hoskins led off the second inning and they scored another two runs off two hits in the third.

The Golden Rams (1-7) will return to action on Saturday at 1pm with a doubleheader against Emmanuel College. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm on West Campus.
