MCGOWAN HITS GRAND SLAM, HOMERS TWICE VS EMMANUEL

Golden Rams Get Three Homers in Saturday's Twin Bill

ALBANY- Albany State University earned its second split in as many days in a doubleheader matchup against Emmanuel College on Saturday at West Campus softball field.

Mirroring their outing against Southern Wesleyan the day before, the Golden Rams won their first game of the afternoon's doubleheader but suffered a setback in the game two
Junior pitcher and designated player Aryn McGowan took center stage on Saturday, homering in each game including a grand slam in ASU's 8-3 win while freshman Lauren Lowery picked up her first win as a starter.

The Golden Rams improved to 2-7 overall with an 8-3 win over Emmanuel College in the afternoon's opener. ASU scored two runs in their half of the first and third innings and put a strangle hold on the game when Aryn McGowan's grand slam in the bottom of the fourth gave the Rams cushion to close out the win. The Lions attempted a rally as ASU pitcher Lauren Lowery faced six batters in the 6th inning. EC did manage a run on three hits, but some clutch defense from Albany State resulted in a force out at home and turned a double play to end the inning.

In game two the Lions turned the tables on the Golden Rams from the opening inning. Assisted by two crucial ASU errors, Emmanuel batted around in their first turn at the plate and ended the inning with 9 runs scored on 8 hits.

It took until the third inning, but the Rams threatened to rally. ASU got back to back homers, first from McGowan's 2RBI shot which was followed by a solo long ball from Megan Shepherd. With two on, Jade Williams singled to score Mikiyah Harris and the Rams closed the inning facing a five run deficit.

The Lions got a run in the top of the 5th and ASU added one in the bottom of the 6th for the final point spread. The Golden Rams threated in their final at bat but left three runner stranded after a fly out to right field.

ASU will take the field again on Wednesday against Georgia Southwestern. Game time is scheduled for 3pm on West Campus.
