ASU WOMEN SPOIL PANTHERS' SENIOR NIGHT
Golden Rams Rally Late to Pick Up Road Win
ATLANTA-The Albany State University women's basketball team rallied from behind to capture a thrilling 80-76 win over Clark-Atlanta University Monday night at the Henderson Building.
The Golden Rams outscored Clark-Atlanta 11-2 over the final 3:27 to upend the Panthers in their Senior Night home finale. Reyna Miller hit one of two from the line with 1:04 remaining to put CAU up 76-71. On ASU's next possession,
Ashley Johnson drained a three pointer on an assist from
Alexandria James to pull the Golden Rams within two.
After a called time out, Albany State then used their trapping defense to force a turnover and subsequent steal by
Kayla Green. Green looked up and found James for a streaking layup and the game was tied at 76 all.
Another Panther turnover yielded a go-ahead jumper by James with 34 seconds left, giving the Rams their first lead of the evening.
Clark-Atlanta misfired on a three-point attempt, managed to corral the offensive board but Holloway was then whistled for a player control foul, giving the ball back to ASU with 7 seconds remaining. James was then fouled and sent to the free throw line where she converted two shots for the final point spread.
The Panthers opened the game on a 7-0 run and did not relinquish the lead until the Rams' fourth quarter comeback. Clark's largest lead, a 14 point edge came in the third, but the Golden Rams fought back to tie the game 56-56 with a bucket from James at the close of the quarter. James finished the night with a season high 18 points off the bench for ASU
Elesha Foster turned in her ninth double-double of the season with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
The Golden Rams will wrap the regular season on Thursday at Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama.
