Rams Fall to 0-4 On The Season

ALBANY- The Albany State University women's tennis team fell to both Georgia Southwestern and Huntingdon College Friday afternoon on West Campus.

The Golden Rams were swept in both matches by the score of 9-0 each.

In the day's opener the GSW Canes swept all but two of the singles matchups. In the #4 singles, Annelise Leahy def. Alani Gauthier 6-0, 6-1 and the Rams' Lindsay Ashford fell in a close tiebreaker to Ashley Denby. Denby took the first set 7-5 but Ashford bounced back with a 6-4 win in the second set. Denby took the decision 1-0 in the third.

The Canes completed the win with three triumphs in the doubles competition. The duo of Latoya Boyd and Sam Heard fought hard but lost to Celia del Castillo and Maria Toboada 8-4.

The afternoon match also finished 9-0 in favor of Huntingdon College who picked up their first win of the year. The pair of Ashford and Sam Heard battled in a setback to Lucy Burch and Macklyn Hubbard 8-6. In the singles competition Ashford nearly forced her second straight tiebreaker of the day but fell to Kacey Stephens 6-1, 7-6.

The Golden Rams (0-4) will return to action February 22-24, 2018 at the first SIAC Conference Roundup in Columbia, SC.
