FAMILIA HOMERS IN 8-4 WIN OVER LEE UNIVERSITY

Albany State Evens Record at .500 on the Season

February 15, 2018

ALBANY- The Albany State University Golden Rams evened their record at 3-3 overall with an 8-4 win over Lee University Thursday evening at West Campus baseball field.

As a team the Golden Rams amassed a season high 13 hits. ASU scored runs in their first two at bats and thwarted a late run by Lee University with two insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th.

The Rams were in front 2-1 and facing two out in their half of the second when Kelvin Wimbush got on with a single. Riliani Familia then smacked a homer, his first of the season, to left field to put ASU up 4-1.

After Tyler Morris then reached on an error, a pitching change and a Nic Griggs single later, Trey McMillan drove in Morris. Avery Roth then singled to score Griggs and the Rams held a 6-1 at the close of two complete innings.

The Flames added a run in the top of the third on a leadoff homer from Miguel Pimentel, but the teams' respective defenses kept the game scoreless through the next four and a half innings.

In the top of the eight, consecutive hit batters, set up a RBI double by Ryan Beemish. Two batters later Spencer Mossburg touched home after a SAC fly and the score stood 6-4 in favor of ASU. In the bottom of the inning, Familia led the Golden Rams' response with an RBI double and would later score on a throwing error for the final point spread.

Familia who leads the Rams in RBI, added three to his season total on Thursday afternoon. Michael Reddick picked up the win for Albany State while Rob Gustitus who gave up 4 earned runs, got the loss in one and two thirds innings of work.

The Rams will hit the road for a three game set with West Georgia in Carrollton, Georgia beginning Friday at 1pm.
