GREEN LEADS GOLDEN RAMS IN 71-65 WIN OVER MILES
Lady Rams Finish Home Slate With Victory on Senior Night

February 12, 2018
ALBANY- The Albany State University women's basketball team escaped with a 71-65 win over Miles College on "Senior Night" Monday at West Campus Arena.

ASU seniors Achanti Layfield, Kayla Green, Aniefiok Udofia and Elesha Foster wrapped their final home game with a win but had to hold off an upstart Miles squad that fought back from a twenty point third quarter deficit.

The Golden Rams were up 50-30 at the 7:18 mark but a 19-5 Miles run, punctuated by a Taylor Terry jumper as the quarter expired, narrowed the gap to just six points. In the third quarter the Golden Bears outscored ASU 19-11 while holding the Rams to just 3-16 shooting (18%) from the field.

With 7:38 to go, a three-pointer from Green gave ASU a 63-56 cushion. The Golden Bears then went on a 7-0 spurt and with one of two free throws from Symone Williams knotted the game at 63 all with 2:51 remaining. The rest of the game was a free throw contest as both teams failed to make a shot from the floor. Albany State went back in front with two from the charity stripe from Ashley Johnson with just over two minutes left.

Miles, who trailed the entire contest, had their chances over the final two minutes but came up short going 0-4 from the field over that span.

Both teams where saddled with foul trouble throughout the game as they were whistled for a combined 59 infractions.

Kayla Green topped all scorers in her final home game as a Golden Ram with 21 points. Foster chipped in with a 10 point and 10 board double-double while Albany native Layfield contributed 12 points.

Miles slips to 8-15 overall while ASU moves to 15-11 and 11-5 in SIAC play. The Golden Rams will close out the regular season with road games at Clark-Atlanta on February 19th and will wrap this year's home and home series with Miles on February 22nd in Fairfield, Alabama.
