BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Albany State took part in the 2018 SIAC Volleyball Championships on Monday as the number one seed from the East. The Golden Rams won their first match of the day over LeMoyne-Owen (3-0) before falling to defending champion Kentucky State in the nightcap, 0-3.Â
Jannai Cheeks, who was named 2nd Team All-SIAC on Monday, set the tone in game one, registering 16 kills, nine digs, and five aces for the Golden Rams. Ciara Chapman was credited with 41 assists.
ASU struggled on the attack against Kentucky State, hitting only .089 percent compared to .203 for KSU. Cheeks again led the way with 13 kills and 17 digs while Chapman added 30 assists.
Albany State is back in action on Tuesday when they take on Clark Atlanta in an elimination match at 10:00 am CST on court seven. The two teams split their regular season games this year, each winning the road contest.
