Albany State Wins Low Scoring Affair on The Road

LADY RAMS COME BACK TO TOPPLE CLAFLIN 55-49

Albany State Wins Low Scoring Affair on The Road

January 29, 2018

ORANGEBURG, SC- Kayla Green scored a game high 13 points as the Albany State Lady Rams fought back to defeat Claflin University Monday night at Tullis Arena.

ASU's 55 points scored against the Lady Panthers is their lowest output in a win this season. Subsequently the 49 points the Rams allowed boasts the second lowest scored by an opponent this year in a victory.

Albany State held the Lady Panthers to just 27% shooting for the game.

After ASU took a 16-6 advantage at the end of the opening quarter, Alexandria James opened the second with a jumper to give the Golden Rams their biggest lead of the night.

Claflin University held a 38-34 advantage entering the final quarter and then a three pointer by Dominique Williams extended that lead to seven points. That differential, which came with 8:41 left, represented the Panthers' largest lead of the evening.

With 4:12 remaining two free throws from Jhanice Stokes made the score 47-42 in favor of Claflin.  ASU then scored six unanswered, all three baskets courtesy of Kayla Green to put ASU in front 48-47, their first lead since they were ahead 30-27 with 3:32 left in the third quarter.

The Panthers (13-9, SIAC 9-4) did not hit another shot from the floor after Albany State regained the lead. For their turn the Lady Rams closed the final quarter with a 7-1 run, avenging a home loss they suffered to Claflin on November 30th in Albany (60-54).

Elesha Foster finished with a double-double for the Golden Rams with 10 points and 13 boards.

Albany State will return home on Monday, February 5th to face Paine College. Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm at West Campus Arena.
