Tigers Hold Off Golden Rams, Remain Unbeaten on the Season

ALBANY- Morehouse College held off a stingy Albany State Golden Rams basketball team with a 75-70 victory Monday afternoon at West Campus Arena.

The Golden Rams challenged the Maroon Tigers throughout the contest, battling back from a 39-28 halftime deficit and a thirteen point Morehouse advantage with 18:27 left in the second half.

 Tylen Walker nailed a three-pointer with 28 seconds left in regulation to cut Morehouse's lead to 71-67.  After two free throws from Morehouse's Tyrius Walker, the Rams' next possession ended in a turnover, dashing their hopes of becoming the first team this season to hang a loss on the Maroon Tigers.

Morehouse remains unblemished on the season at 15-0 overall (SIAC 10-0), setting a school record for consecutive wins at fifteen. Walker and Jordan Wallace shared game high honors with 19 points apiece.

Jared Harrington scored a team high 18 points off the bench for the Golden Rams.

Saturday's game was dictated by the number of called fouls; Morehouse was whistled 20 times while Albany State was charged with a season high 29 infractions. The two teams combined for a total of seven players that finished the game with at least four fouls.For their time at the charity stripe the Maroon Tigers took 48 attempts and made more free throws (28) than the Golden Rams attempted (24). ASU was 15-24 from the line in the five point loss.

In the first half there were four lead changes before the Rams went on a mini run and took a 21-16 advantage, their largest of the game, at the 12:12 mark. Morehouse later turned the tables, closing the half on a 12-3 run to take an eleven point advantage into the locker room.

During second half play the Marron Tigers staved every ASU run with their free throw shooting, converting 19 of 30 attempts.

The Albany State men's basketball team will return to action on Saturday as a part of an SIAC doubleheader against Fort Valley State University in the Battle of the Blue and Gold. The women's team will precede the men's action at 4pm from West Campus Arena.
