Lady Rams drop pair to Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga.- The Albany State women's softball team played well against highly-ranked Valdosta State. However, ASU could not finish off the Lady Blazers, losing 7-5 and 8-3.
 
With the losses, The Lady Rams fall to 23-20 overall.

Albany State opened its scoring in the top of the first inning. Toni Coleman smashed a double to score Malea Maye and Kayla Alexander for a 2-0 lead. Valdosta State scored its first run in the bottom of the stanza.
 
In the third quarter, the Lady Rams built a 4-1 advantage. Alexander and Maye scored runs to increase the visitors lead. Another run by Jade Williams in the top of the fourth gave ASU a 5-1 edge.
 
However, the Lady Blazers scored four runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to take the win away from ASU.
 
Alexander and Coleman each went 3-for-4 from the plate. Coleman had two RBIs. Tiffany Massey was the losing pitcher.
 
Jessica Mohl and Taylor Hartenbach led Valdosta State with two hits apiece. Hartenbach added three RBIs. Kathryn Carter was the winning pitcher.

The Lady Rams scored all their runs in the opening inning. Coleman belted a three-run homer to give the visitors the early advantage.
 
However, ASU went cold from the plate while VSU took the lead and pulled away. The Lady Blazers scoring was highlighted by a four-run third inning.
 
Jade Williams recorded two hits for Albany State. Aryn McGowan was the losing pitcher.
 
The Lady Rams had six hits, two errors and four LOBs.
 
Mohl and Amber Kling had two hits apiece for VSU. Chelsea Canara had three RBIs. Avery Lamb was the winning pitcher.
 
The Lady Blazers collected 10 hits, no errors and eight LOBs.
 
Albany State will return to action on Saturday, April 29 when it travels to Orangeburg, S.C. The Lady Rams will play a make-up game with Claflin University. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
