Golden Rams sweep LeMoyne-Owen to open league play

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State baseball team recorded a two-game winning streak for the first time this season. In its first two conference games of a three-game series, ASU shut out LeMoyne-Owen 7-0 in Game 1 before rallying to defeat the Magicians 13-9 in the second contest.
 
The pair of wins gives the Golden Rams an overall record of 3-15 and 2-0 in the SIAC.

Albany State began its shut out by taking the early lead in the first inning. Chasen Roulhac scored to give ASU a 1-0 lead.
 
After a scoreless second inning, the Golden Rams exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third inning. Roulhac scored again off a walk, and Jeremy Arrington belted a single down the left field line to score Bryant Prather and Nic Griggs for a 4-0 edge. Then, Ryan McClendon and Arrington each scored off wild pitches to build a 6-0 advantage.
 
Peter Setterich and Theo Smith combined to score Albany State's final run. Setterich grounded out to second, but Smith was able to score during the play.
 
Roulhac went 2-for-3 at the plate, and Arrington had two RBIs. Tristan Rice (1-1) emerged as the winning pitcher, holding LOC to only one hit during the contest. He also had four strike outs.
 
The Golden Rams recorded four hits, three errors and left four runners on base.

After trailing 5-0 after the top of the second inning, Albany State began its rally in the bottom of the stanza. Ryan McClendon homerun cut the team's deficit to 5-1, but LeMoyne-Owen added a run in the top of the third to build a 6-1 advantage.
 
In the fourth inning, ASU was able to get closer with four runs. Lawrence Hyde singled to score Robbie Feagans, and Kelvin Wimbish's single sent Hyde to home plate and make the score 6-3. Roulhac and Wimbish later scored to bring the Golden Rams into contention at 6-5.
 
The Magicians scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 9-6 advantage, but Albany State seized control of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. ASU blitzed LOC by scoring eight runs in the stanza to put the visiting team away.
 
Hyde finished the game going 3-for-3 and recorded three RBIs. Wimbish and Griggs each went 2-for-3. Brandon Pearson was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts.
 
The Golden Rams collected 13 hits, three errors and five runners left on base.
 
LeMoyne-Owen was led by Jacob Rankin, who went 3-for 4 from the plate. Deanthony Baker, Santione Key and Caleem Serrant each added two hits. Ranking was also the losing pitcher.
 
The two teams will vie again on Sunday at 1 p.m. to complete the three-game series.
