ASU Softball loses doubleheader to Young Harris

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The Albany State women's softball team could not get into the win column on the final day of the Bobcat Kickoff Tournament. ASU dropped a pair of games to Young Harris College by the scores of 4-0 and 15-3.

With the losses, the Lady Rams now own an overall record of 0-4, while YHC improves to 4-0.

Young Harris 4, Albany State 0

Although it did a good job with Young Harris defensively, Albany State found trouble with its own offense. The Lady Lions scored single runs in the first and second innings and two in the fifth to help shut out the Lady Rams.

ASU only collected two hits in the game, and those belonged to Brianna Murillo and Kayla Alexander. Aryn McGowan (0-2) was the losing pitcher.

Young Harris 15, Albany State 3

The Lady Rams were able to generate more offense in the second contest, but they could not stop YHC from exploding for runs in the first two innings.

The Lady Lions scored a whopping nine runs in the first inning alone. They added to their total with six more scores in the top of the second inning for a 15-0 advantage.

Albany did manage to avoid a shutout in the fifth inning. Candace Blair started the potential rally with a triple that scored Jade Williams and Cristiana Houston and cut the deficit to 15-2. Blair then scored on a wild pitch to account for ASU's final run. The game concluded after the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule.

Williams led the team offensively by going 2-for-3 at the mound. Albany State collected four hits and committed five errors. Taylor Clemens (0-2) was the losing pitcher.

Albany State will return to action on Feb. 11-12 when it travels to Columbus, Ga. to participate in the Columbus State University Cougar Classic. The Lady Rams will face Lander University (2 p.m.) and Columbus State (7 p.m.) on Saturday. They will face the same two teams on Sunday at 1 p.m. (Lander) and 5 p.m. (Columbus State).
