Lady Rams extend win streak after sweep of Emmanuel

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State women's softball team extended its win streak three games after a Saturday afternoon sweep. ASU defeated the Emmanuel College Lady Lions in a doubleheader by the scores of 4-3 and 3-0.
 
The victories give the Lady Rams an overall record of 4-10. Emmanuel falls to 2-8.

After Emmanuel took an early 2-0 lead, Albany State began its rally in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kayla Alexander hit a single to center field to score Demeshia Russell and cut the home team's deficit to 2-1.
 
In the fifth inning, the Lady Rams seized the lead. Brianna Murillo hit a two-run homer to score herself and Kyera Whitaker for a 3-2 edge.
 
After the Lady Lions scored a run to tie the score in the top of the sixth, ASU got the winning run in the bottom of the stanza. Malea Maye's double sent Jade Williams to home plate to account for the final tally.
 
The Lady Rams recorded six hits, committed six errors and left 11 runners on base. Tiffany Massey was the winning pitcher.
 
Brianna Morgan and Noelle Petty each had two hits for Emmanuel. The Lady Lions collected eight hits, two errors and 11 LOBs. Erin Harden was the losing pitcher.

The Lady Rams scored its first run in the bottom of the first inning. Danielle Turner went home courtesy of an error by the EC centerfielder to give ASU a 1-0 edge.
 
In the third inning, Albany State was able to extend its lead. Maye's two-run homer gave ASU a 3-0 advantage it would not relinquish.
 
Maye led Albany State with two hits and two RBIs, and Jala Stewart and Danielle Turner added two hits apiece. Aryn McGowan was the winning pitcher.
 
The Lady Rams tallied eight hits, committed no errors and left nine runners on base.
 
Emmanuel's Brianna Morgan recorded two hits, and Taylor Saxon was the losing pitcher. The Lady Lions had three hits, three errors and six LOBs.
 
Albany State will return to action on Wednesday, March 1 when it hosts Georgia College for a twin bill. The Lady Bobcats won the Feb. 4 doubleheader by the score of 8-2 and 9-1. Game times are set for 4 and 6 p.m.
