Lady Rams fall victim to big scoring innings by Georgia College

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State women's softball team held leads in both games, but big scoring innings by Georgia College erased its advantages. As a result, ASU dropped 12-8 and 11-1 decisions to Georgia College in a Wednesday doubleheader.
                   
The pair of losses gives the Lady Rams an overall record of 4-12. The Lady Bobcats improve to 9-9.
 
Georgia College 12, Albany State 8
 
Albany State built an early lead in the bottom of the first quarter. Malea Maye hit a single that scored Jade Williams for a 1-0 edge.
 
Both teams were able to generate points in the third inning. After Georgia College scored two runs, the Lady Rams answered in the bottom of the stanza. Maye smashed another single to send Williams and Kayla Alexander home. Jala Stewart recorded a double, and Maye scored off of it to give ASU a 4-2 lead.
 
Albany State added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Danielle Turner hit a homerun to give the home team a 5-2 advantage.
 
In the top of the fifth inning, ASU lost control of the contest. The Lady Bobcats scored seven runs in the stanza to take a 9-5 lead. The Lady Rams used the sixth to pull closer. Aryn McGowan nailed a two-run homer to close the gap to 9-7.
 
The seventh inning had GC score three more run to build a 12-7 advantage. ASU was only able to generate one more run in the bottom of the seventh.
 
Maye recorded four hits and three RBIs, and Williams added three hits. The Lady Rams collected 11 hits, committed five errors and left five runners left on base. Tiffany Massey was the losing pitcher.
 
Faith Flanders led Georgia College with four hits and three RBIs. Danielle Bernstein and Baylee Hall added two hits apiece. Kayla Price was the winning pitcher. The Lady Bobcats had 12 hits and left 10 runners on base.

Brianna Murillo hit a solo homerun in the second inning, but that's all the offense ASU could muster. The Lady Bobcats scored two runs in the third and nine in the fourth to defeat Albany State.
 
The Lady Rams had four hits, two errors and six LOBs. Aryn McGowan was the losing pitcher.
 
For Georgia College, Amber McCoy, Faith Flanders and Emily Robertson each recorded two hits. The Lady Bobcats tallied four hits, an error and seven LOBs. Kayla Price was the winning pitcher.
 
Albany State will return to action when it opens SIAC conference play this weekend against Benedict. The Lady Rams will face BC in a three-game series, playing at 3 p.m. on Friday and a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
