Second half play leads Lady Rams past Tuskegee

ALBANY, Ga.- Freshman guard Alexandria James recorded a game-high 17 points, including a 5-7 performance from three-point range, six rebounds and five assists to lead the Albany State women's basketball team to a 74-53 win over Tuskegee University. ASU avenged a 72-58 loss to the Tigerettes on Jan. 30.
 
With the victory, the Lady Rams, who have won three straight games, improve to 5-18 overall and 5-9 in the SIAC. Tuskegee falls to 11-14, 6-9.
 
After trailing 7-0 in the opening minutes of the first quarter, Albany State managed to comeback to take a 19-12 lead by the end of the stanza. Tuskegee won the battle in the second period and took a 32-30 advantage into halftime.
 
ASU seized control of the game in the third quarter. A 29-13 edge game the Lady Rams a 59-45 lead heading into the fourth. Albany State used balance scoring in the final stanza to outcore the visitors. A three-pointer by Tyra Thompson gave the Lady Rams a 71-45 lead at the 4:17 mark.
 
Kayla Green recorded 16 points and nine rebounds, and Thompson added 11 points and 14 rebounds. Zuri Frost had 11 points and six assists.
 
The Lady Rams shot 26-of-54 (48.1%) from the field, 11-of-19 (57.9%) from three-point range and 11-of-20 (55%) from the free throw line.
 
Teja Finley led Miles with 12 points and five rebounds. Rachel Brown tallied 10 points and four rebounds.
 
The Tigerettes shot 18-of-63 (28.6%) from the field, 1-of-17 (5.9%) from three-point range and 16-of-24 (66.7%) from the free throw line.

Albany State returns to action on Saturday, Feb.18 when it hosts archrival Fort Valley State University for basketball homecoming. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
