GREEN, FOSTER LEAD ALBANY STATE PAST LANE COLLEGE 70-66

Lady Golden Rams Close 2017 With SIAC Road Win

December 30, 2017

JACKSON, TN- Kayla Green and Elesha Foster led the way as the Albany State Lady Golden Rams defeated Lane College 70-66 Saturday afternoon at Lane Gymnasium.

Foster poured in a team high 21 points while Green finished a rebound short of a double-double with 19 points and 9 boards. They were the only two Golden Rams to register double figures in the contest. With the win Albany State moves their record to 9-8 overall and 5-2 in the SIAC.

ASU had to overcome a slow start from the first quarter where they were held to single digits (8 points) on 2-10 shooting from the field. The Lady Golden Rams rallied back in the second quarter, outscoring Lane 27-25 but faced a 42-35 deficit at halftime.

After the intermission, Albany State turned up their defensive intensity, limiting the Dragons (2-11, SIAC 2-4) to 23% shooting from the floor while dominating the glass 10-4 in the quarter. In the third, Foster and Green combined for 13 points, which bested Lane's team overall output (9 points). ASU closed the third stanza on a 13-3 run to take 54-51 leading into the final quarter.

The Lady Golden Rams continued to control the tempo with the start of the fourth quarter, opening the final 10 minutes with an 11-3 run. They seized their largest lead on the game, a twelve point spread of 65-53 after Ashley Johnson connected on a three-pointer with 6:40 remaining. The Dragons mustered a late rally and cut the lead to 69-66 after three free throws from Destiny Irvin with 24 seconds left. However time worked to ASU's advantage and Achanti Layfield sank one of two from the line to seal the victory for the Golden Rams.

Albany State will take the court again at home on January 4th when they welcome Spring Hill College to West Campus Arena. Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm.
