Senior Guard Leads All Scorers With 20 Points Off The Bench

ALBANY- Achanti Layfield scored 15 of her 20 points in the second half as the Albany State Lady Golden Rams upended Benedict College Saturday afternoon at West Campus Arena.

Layfield came off the bench to lead all scorers in the SIAC matchup as the Lady Golden Rams improve to 2-2 in the conference and 5-4 overall. She was the only ASU player to register double figures on the afternoon.

ASU grabbed their largest lead of the game twice (nine points); 16-7 and the end of the first quarter and again at the 7:48 mark of the second. The Lady Golden Rams went in front by seven on a three-pointer by Layfield with 1:33 left in the second stanza, but the Lady Tigers closed the half on an 8-2 run, including a three-ball by Ay'Anna Bey at the halftime buzzer.

Albany State clung to a 40-38 at the start of the second half but managed to hold only the lead for the entirety of the third quarter.

ASU briefly surrendered the lead by a point with 4:46 remaining when Jabree Jones sank on of two from the free throw line. On the Lady Rams next possession a basket by Aniefiok Udofia put ASU back in front for the rest of the way.

Layfield scored 7 points in the final quarter, including 5-6 of from the free throw line over the final 2:18.

Raven Baker led the Lady Tigers with 12 points on 4-5 three point shooting. Benedict slips to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in SIAC play.

Albany State will return to action on Monday, December 4th against Georgia College in Milledgeville, GA. Game time is scheduled for 6pm.
