FOUR LADY RAMS NOTCH DOUBLE FIGURES IN WIN OVER #25 ROLLINS COLLINS

Achanti Layfield scored a team high 20 points as Albany State University steered past #25 Rollins College Monday evening at Warden Arena.
With the win the Lady Golden Rams even their record at 7-7 overall and boast a 3-2 mark in non-conference competition.
Layfield scored 14 of her points in the second half, including 8 of 8 from the charity stripe and 2 of 2 from beyond the three–point arc.
Elesha Foster registered her fourth double-double of the year with 13 points and 11 boards,
Kayla Green contributed 11 points and
Alexandria James chipped in with 13 off the bench.
Over the first ten minutes the lead exchanged hands four times, the last coming on a three pointer by
Ashley Johnson which gave the Lady Rams a 15-13 lead with 12 seconds left in the quarter. Before halftime, Albany State grabbed a 9 point lead on two occasions, the latter coming on a layup by Foster with 1:28 left in the second. Denise Daniels hit a shot to pull Rollins (8-3 overall) within seven and the Lady Golden Rams held a 35-27 lead at the intermission.
Albany State led by the same point spread by the close of the third quarter (51-44) but Rollins would make one last run at the start of the fourth. The Tars opened the final stanza with an 11-6 run and on a three ball by Julia Ingler, the Lady Rams' lead had dwindled to 57-55 with 6:48 left.
ASU responded with an 11-2 run and took their largest lead of the game of eleven points, 68-57, with 2:08 to go. The Lady Golden Rams shot 62% in the close out quarter and finished at an impressive 48% for the game.
Ingler was the game's high scorer with 23 points.
Albany State will return to action tomorrow at Eckerd College. Tip off is slated for 4:00pm.
